Design Hero: Karim Rashid

Dubbed as the "most famous industrial designer in all the Americas" by Time Magazine, Karim Rashid has designed more than 4,000 products throughout his career, winning over 300 of the most prestigious awards in the field of interior design and architecture. I wanted to showcase his design philosophy, in addition to his brilliance in being able to create such a vast quantity of works. I created a design system consisting of an informational poster, booklet, and video introducing someone to Karim Rashid.

Duration:

14 Weeks

Tools:

After Effects
InDesign
Illustrator

Context:

Individual Studio Project

Poster

18" x 24"

Rashid’s works are soft, comforting, and blobular, and I wanted to invoke these qualities in my poster. I drew various blobular forms in Procreate, each of which are representations of his work.

Booklet

8.25'' x 10.5''

A deep dive into Karim Rashid's design philosophy and design process, consisting of 20 pages and 7 spreads. The center spread expands outwards into a six page display of Rashid's face engulfing many of his works.

Animation

My animation uses a narration by Karim Rashid talking about his design philosophy. I wanted to show the fluidity of his forms, as many of his works are fluid and organic and inspired by nature.
