Creating all motion assets and backdrop renders for Pittsburgh's largest fashion show

TIMELINE:
OCT 2023 - MAR 2024
ROLE:
MOTION HEAD W/ 6 MEMBERS
TOOLS:
CINEMA4D, FIGMA, AE

Lunar Gala is an annual student-run fashion show showcasing brilliant artistry in design, modeling, and production, and dance performance. I led a team of 6 motion designers and worked with Print, Web, and PR teams to interpret this year’s theme into a series of visuals. As a team, we created all animated and static assets for the show.

This year’s theme, LIMINAL, is about transitional processes and the boundaries between reality and illusion, past and present, stagnation and growth. It is about the spaces characterized by ambiguity and disorientation, and the thresholds that mark the changes and transitions in our lives.

REFLECTION

Going into this, I had never touched Cinema4D or any 3D software before, so having to create dozens of 3D rendered visuals was incredibly daunting. Luckily, I had my team to help, and Youtube to fill in the gaps of my knowledge. This was a fun learning opportunity, as I had to figure out how to render all the backdrops with hardware constraints, as well as establishing consistency across all backdrops while maintaining creative freedom for my team. Striking a balance between ensuring sure that each fashion designer was satisfied with their backdrop and making sure that the backdrops all fit together cohesively with the LIMINAL theme was a challenge. Overall, this was a huge team effort, and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. Thanks to Billy Peng, Aarnav Patel, Jeffrey Ye, Joanna Ni, Shannon Lin, and Mason Wang for being wonderful teammates.
